Why is SAE-8620 alloy used?
SAE8620 is a low carbon nickel chromium molybdenum alloy steel with good case hardening properties. In this alloy nickel content give high case toughness and above average core sturdiness. Chromium and molybdenum promote good carbide formation, resulting in good surface hardness and wear. This alloy is used for many applications due to its low cost, better machinability, availability. The mechanical properties of this alloy are yield and tensile strength, impact strength, and hardness. This alloy steel is flexible during hardening treatments, thus enabling the improvement of core properties.
