Information about the grade: EN42 is also available for enhanced machinability, usually supplied in untreated and cold-finished conditions. EN42 is widely used for the manufacture of components requiring superior surface finish with high production rates.

EN42 is a very common grade of low carbon-manganese free cutting steel, which is mostapplicable for the manufacture of recycled components, such as nuts, bolts, hydraulic fittings and studs, particularly where intricate drilling and machining operations are involved. It can be case-hardened, producing parts with enhanced wear resistance, which is the low carbon version of the alloy.
Features and composition: EN-42 Round Bar and Rod is manganese steel with 1% carbon steel and an 11% to 14% manganese content supplied in a plate. It offers best work hardening properties. EN42 rods have good oxidation resistance and may be used in continuous mending up to 1140 Degree C, presenting the reduction of sulphur gases that are not present in the materials. With their high chromium substance, EN -42 rods offers good corrosion resistance to increase high-temperature properties.
The elevated chromium and nickel stuffing in EN 42 round bars provide comparable corrosion resistance, superior resistance to oxidation and the retention of a larger portion of room temperature potency than the widespread austenitic alloys.
