Composition:
The chemical composition of the ASTM A638 round bars consisted of nickel, manganese, silicon, and chromium. Along with these materials, there is also the addition of other elements such as carbon, phosphorus, copper, sulfur.
The chromium content in ASTM A638 alloy added increased resistance to oxidation. The resistance ability increases when chromium content is also added. The extra nickel results in the high amount to form the most significant rust and heat resistance class.
The percentage of nickel is to form austenite that leads to greater strength and toughness. This 660-grade alloy also has important elements such as titanium. The prime purpose of alloying elements is carbide stabilization, and it is combined with carbon content to form titanium carbides that are stable and hard to dissolve.
The percentage of manganese added results in the improvisation of hot working attributes and enhances properties such as increase power, hardenability, and toughness. It has improved pitting corrosion resistance, especially by sulfur and chlorides.
Features:
Alloy 660-grade type 2 has great machinability, and thus, these bars are ready to machine than nickel-based precipitation hardening grades or other alloys. It also has higher creep and good corrosion resistance properties, making it more popular in the manufacturing industry.
Its scaling resistance in the air is up to 800 degrees Celsius. These bars have marked the degree of general corrosion resistance.
