What is Brass?
Brass is primarily an alloy of copper and zinc to which additions of other elements such as manganese, arsenic, aluminium, silicon, and lead are often made. CZ112 is commonly known as Naval Brass due to its improved corrosion resistance in marine environments. The general composition is 37% zinc and 62% copper, with a significant addition of 1% tin. It gives an increased corrosion resistance together with a harder and stronger duplex structure to improve the mechanical properties. The increase in corrosion resistance allows the material to be used both in seawater and in other slightly aggressive fluids, and it also offers better strength levels than many of the basic alpha brasses combined with excellent hot formability.
